MICHIGAN
OUR RACES:
Michigan is a trifecta State: a critical hold (and open) Senate seat, at least three competitive House races, and one of the most important swing states for control of the White House.
It’s a state of multitudes, full of progressive college towns, wilderness and agriculture aplenty, the largest Muslim American population in the country, and proud cities with a storied industrial legacy who are looking to national leaders for renewal.
Democrats have a lot of stories to tell to a lot of people, and we aim to tell them.
Support Elisa Slotkin⋆ US Senate
An amazing Member of Congress elected during the 2018 Blue Wave, Elisa Slotkin is a patriot in the truest sense of the word. After the September 11th attacks on our nation, she joined the CIA as a Middle East analyst and served three tours of duty beside the U.S. military, working on critical intelligence to keep our troops and our nation safe. After serving under Republican and Democratic administrations as national security staff, a more personal matter would compel her to serve in Congress: the death of her mother from ovarian cancer. Expanding life-saving health care became her new mission in life. Her state and nation need her once again, and she’s running for U.S. Senate because service is what she does best.
➟ OUR OPPONENT: Defeat Mike Rogers
The cult of MAGA has its fair share of true believers, worshiping at the altar of Donald Trump. Others, much more cynical, embrace the MAGA movement for political gain, knowing the dangers it poses and looking the other way to accumulate power. The latter is Mike Rogers’ way. He’s proud to tout Donald Trump’s endorsement, despite penning an op-ed that the 2021 election was free and fair. He knows how precarious American democracy would be under a second Trump term. He just doesn’t care. Luckily, American democracy endures in 2024, and Michigan voters can tell Rogers to take a hike.
Support Curtis Hertel ⋆ MI-07
If anyone in Mid-Michigan knows how to break through the logjam to get things done, it’s Curtis Hertel. He served as Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Director of Legislative Affairs, responsible for negotiating bipartisan legislation that protected abortion rights, cut taxes for working families, expanded workers’ rights, and brought manufacturing jobs back to Michigan. Now he’s running for Congress because the people of Michigan’s 7th deserve someone who is focused on making government work for them.
➟ OUR OPPONENT: Defeat Tom Barrett
Tom Barrett is proudly “100% pro-life, no exceptions” and supported Michigan’s 1931 law banning abortions even in the case of rape or incest. He’s not worried about the blowback though, because, as he told a reporter, his “opponent is not a woman.” Someone should tell Barrett that plenty of women vote, and plenty of men think people like him should mind their own damn business and let families make their own healthcare decisions.
Support Kristen McDonald Rivet ⋆ MI-08
Part of the first generation of her family to attend college, Kristen McDonald Rivet knows how hard it is for working class kids to achieve their American Dream. That’s why she devoted her life to uplifting kids in her community, as the Executive Director of Michigan Head Start, Chief of Staff for Michigan’s Department of Education, and Vice President of the Skillman Foundation. In 2022, she secured a seat on the Michigan State Senate, where she led the charge for the largest tax cut for working families in Michigan history and passed a commonsense gun safety bill. Now she’s running for Congress to bring these common sense values to Washington, DC.
➟ OUR OPPONENT: Defeat Paul Junge
A trust fund baby from California, Paul Junge’s passion seems to be spending his parents’ money to lose Congressional elections. Now on his third attempt, he described Roe v. Wade as protecting “made up rights” and said he would “celebrate the opportunity” to impose abortion bans. He was an early endorser of JD Vance’s bid for U.S. Senate and worked in the Trump Administration, so we can be confident he would be a rubber stamp for Project 2025 and the MAGA extremist agenda.
Support Carl Marlinga ⋆ MI-10
Kamala Harris isn’t the only prosecutor ready to make the case for an agenda that works for middle and working class families in 2024. For more than 40 years, Carl Marlinga served as the Macomb County Prosecutor, an Assistant U.S. attorney, and as a judge on the 16th Judicial Circuit Court and Probate Court. His focus is bringing the supply chain and the good jobs that come with it back to Michigan. A lifelong resident of Macomb County, Carl will protect the Great Lakes and defend abortion rights. With a strong candidate like Marlinga, MI-10 is a prime flip opportunity for Democrats.
➟ OUR OPPONENT: Defeat Rep. John James
“We will not stop fighting until we end abortion.” Those are the words of Rep. John James, a MAGA extremist who makes other MAGA extremists look reasonable by comparison. He even compared abortion to “genocide.” With all the unwanted kids James wants brought into the world, you’d think he’d at least want them fed, but you’d be wrong. He’s worked to gut free school lunch programs for underprivileged kids. Sure, he’s an extremist, but he’s also remarkably ineffective. He’s sponsored 29 bills, of which ZERO have reached the President’s desk and only one passed the House. Any way you measure it, James has failed the people of Michigan’s 10th, and it’s time for a change.
