OUR HISTORY
Inspired by the millions of people who participated in the first Women’s March, Activate America, (formerly known as Flip the West and Flip the 14), was founded in 2017. With the dark cloud of Trump and Trumpism hovering over America, our team began organizing blue wave activists across California, and soon, across the country.
What we accomplished together exceeded all expectations. In 2018, Activate America volunteers made more than 1.5 million voter contacts, and we helped flip SEVEN of California's Republican-held Congressional seats blue.
In the 2020 cycle, the fight for the soul of America continued, with a renewed urgency to flip the U.S. Senate and White House. So we got to work.
While building a nationwide network of tens of thousands of volunteers and more than 250 organization partners, we made more than 13 million voter contacts in seven states. Through this work, our volunteers were active in all four successful Democratic Senate “flips”, helping secure the Democratic Senate majority and also helping retain the Democratic edge in several close House races
In 2022, we were active coast-to-coast, making more than 10.5 million voter contacts in seven states. Once again, we were active in every state with a successful Senate “flip” and helped hold onto most of the country’s most vulnerable House seats, keeping the Senate blue and preventing a red wave in the House.
Building on the growth of our network of volunteers, we expanded on this work in 2024, making more than 15 million voter contacts. This work helped hold four Senate seats in states that Trump won, hold 13 Democratic House seats, and flip at least seven House seats from red-to-blue.
Every step of the way, we helped blue wave organizations looking to get involved where it matters most, organizing and amplifying volunteer opportunities to reach the voters Democrats needed to win.
