Amplify: Donald Trump Being Bribed by Big Oil

Donald Trump’s 34 felony convictions are just the latest example of what makes him unfit to be President. He’s also embroiled in a major bribery scandal that deserves more attention.

As he always does, Donald Trump is putting himself before the American people, pledging to do Big Oil’s bidding if they pay him $1 billion. It’s the worst kind of corruption, putting Trump’s selfish interest to regain power and avoid accountability above the urgent need to transition to a clean economy.

At an exclusive retreat at his Mar-a-Lago resort, oil company CEOs complained that they spend too much money lobbying Congress to weaken environmental policies.

Trump’s response, paraphrased by the Washington Post’s exclusive reporting:

“You all are wealthy enough, he said, that you should raise $1 billion to return me to the White House. At the dinner, he vowed to immediately reverse dozens of President Biden’s environmental rules and policies and stop new ones from being enacted. …

Giving $1 billion would be a “deal,” Trump said, because of the taxation and regulation they would avoid thanks to him.”

It’s the art of a deal in action. For $1 billion, Donald Trump has promised Big Oil executives that he will:

  • End the Biden Administration’s freeze on Liquified Natural Gas exports, jeopardizing America’s energy independence;

  • Expand oil drilling leases in the Gulf of Mexico, putting the entire Gulf coast at risk of catastrophic spills; and

  • Reverse the Biden Administration’s policies incentivizing Electric Vehicles and calling for cleaner cars.

As President Biden’s campaign spokesperson said, “Donald Trump is selling out working families to Big Oil for campaign checks. It’s that simple.”

We deserve a President who can’t be bought by the world’s most egregious polluters.
