Amplify: Inhaler Costs Capped Thanks to Democrats in Congress & President Biden

The Democratic Party’s Inflation Reduction Act continues to deliver significant healthcare savings to the American people.  Now, starting June 1st, out-of-pocket costs for asthma inhalers have been capped at $35 a month for many Americans.

Highlights:

  • More than 27 million Americans have asthma, including more than 5 million children

  • It’s the leading chronic disease among children

  • The annual cost of asthma to our country is $81.9 billion annually, including $3 billion in losses due to missed work and school days, $29 billion due to asthma-related mortality, and $50.3 billion in medical costs

  • Asthma accounted for 4.9 million annual doctor visits and nearly a million emergency department visits

  • Native Americans have the highest rates of asthma in the United States

  • Black children are nearly twice as likely to have asthma as white children

  • Black Americans are nearly six times more likely to need to visit the emergency room than white Americans due to an asthma attack

  • Black Americans are nearly three times as likely to die from asthma as white Americans
