Amplify: Biden-Harris Administration Announces $4.3 Billion in New Climate Grants
The Biden-Harris administration continues to build upon their climate victories. On July 22nd, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $4.3 billion in funding for 25 new climate projects – thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act. These projects will help communities tackle climate change, improve air quality, and advance environmental justice.
Highlights:
The 25 projects proposed by states, tribes, local governments and territories will reduce greenhouse gas pollution by as much as 971 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2050.
In the transportation sector alone, $1.18 billion in funding will be allocated to projects like building charging infrastructure for zero-emission freight trucks along hundreds of miles of the nation’s busiest highways.
EPA expects to announce up to an additional $300 million in grants for Tribes, Tribal consortia, and territories later this summer.
By 2030, full implementation of States’ Priority Climate Action Plans could reduce nationwide emissions by 7 percent — equivalent to removing nearly one-third of gas cars from use in the U.S.
These projects are just a sliver of the Inflation Reduction Act’s impact, which includes nearly $400 billion in climate and energy funding.
