Amplify: President Biden’s Climate Corps
President Biden has launched “a new initiative to train young people in high-demand skills for jobs in the clean energy economy.” It’s modeled after President FDR’s successful Civilian Conservation Corps, which helped 300,000 people find employment during the Great Depression and created public infrastructure like trails and parks, many of which still exist today.
The American Climate Corps will:
“The American Climate Corps will put a new generation of Americans to work conserving our lands and waters, bolstering community resilience, advancing environmental justice, deploying clean energy, implementing energy efficient technologies, and tackling climate change.”
“American Climate Corps members will gain the skills necessary to access good-paying jobs that are aligned with high-quality employment opportunities after they complete their paid training or service program.”
42,000 people have already signed up for the Climate Corps. The initial launch of the program is slated to deploy 20,000 people.
